LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A group of seniors is raising canes to stay in shape. It's a class that is designed to defend, called "Cane Fu."
At first glance, a Cane Fu class may look like a group of ordinary seniors, but you'd be wise not to cross them. That's because in Cane Fu class, the sticks are made for more than just walking.
"We use these canes and we put them around the neck and toss them down, and go at them until they leave us alone," said Laura Moore, who enjoys her Cane Fu class.

Irvine-based Monarch HealthCare has partnered with Nifty after Fifty to open a unique wellness facility in Orange. Nifty after Fifty is based on the premise that older adults experience profound health improvements when they exercise both their bodies and minds.
“Our philosophy is to improve the overall health and well-being of the members we serve,” says Dr. Bart Asner of Monarch HealthCare. “In support of the large number of seniors cared for by our physicians in the Orange community, this partnership provides a safe and clinically supervised facility to improve fitness and mental acuity for the mature adult. Our members are very excited about joining this first center, one of five Orange County centers we plan to open in partnership with Nifty after Fifty.”
